I personally like the original Star Trek series the best. James T Kirk, played by a young, talented and sexy William Shatner, was a Casanova flying from planet to planet and breaking the hearts of all the women he met. He was every young girl’s hero. When you watch a western, the good guy in the white hat always wins the fight to go on to fight another day. That was James T. Kirk, except he was in outer space.

Frequently in the series, the Enterprise starship would encounter the enemy and Captain Kirk would have to find a means of saving the ship and crew from the bad guys. His First Officer, Spock was a Vulcan. Spock did not think like a human, but because of that he was a great science officer. He always thought logically and was an excellent balance to the Captain.

The other friend of Captain Kirk was the doctor, Leonard H. McCoy, called Bones. Bones was a compassionate man and thought with his heart. He and Spock were at odds many times, yet they would have done anything for one another.

The charisma between these three men is what made this show. The strength of the sexy man in charge, Captain Kirk, the logical thinking of the alien Vulcan Spock and the compassion of Bones, the doctor, is a combination that made Gene Roddenberry famous. Roddenberry consulted on the Star Trek movies and series until his death in 1991 at the age of 70.

I am a huge Star Trek fan and I have been delighted to be currently able to watch the original series, digitally remastered, so that the picture quality is excellent, on CBS Drama.

Considering the age of this series, it has stood the test of time extremely well and is still highly watchable.

I really enjoy all the Star Trek spin-offs from this original series and if I had to name a favorite it would be Deep Space Nine. Luckily for me this is also being shown on CBS Drama!

This series is set in the 24th century and features the adventures of a crew of Starfleet officers living aboard Deep Space Nine, a huge Federation space station orbiting the liberated planet of Bajor, guarding the opening of a stable wormhole to the far side of the Galaxy.

There are so many different space station and planet locations and situations in the series, no two are in anyway similar and the special effects are truly amazing.

Some of the actors are Avery Brooks, who brilliantly plays Benjamin Sisko the commanding officer and Nana Visitor, Rene Auberjonois, Alexander Siddig, Terry Farrell, Michael Dorn and Colm Meaney.

There is a strong sense of reality with this series and also a light touch of humor, all in all it is great entertainment.
