Is the Obama administration's support to build new U.S nuclear power plants for the first time in 3 decades something you support or oppose?

Many people that have expressed their opposition to US nuclear power have always cited the disposal of the nuclear waste as one of their biggest concerns. Since the $8.3 billion dollars in loan guarantees only goes for the construction of new nuclear power plants and the waste issue has been left unmentioned and unresolved; are you for this, or against this?

Heres my thought explained by some expert".Hydropower is the cheapest way to generate electricity today. No other energy source, renewable or nonrenewable, can match it. In 1994 it cost less than one cent per kWh (kilowatt-hour) to produce electricity at a typical hydro plant. In comparison, it costs coal plants about four cents per kWh and nuclear plants two cents per kWh to generate electricity.

Producing electricity from hydropower is cheap because, once a dam has been built and the equipment installed, the energy source-flowing water-is free.

Another reason hydro plants produce power cheaply is due to their sturdy structures and simple equipment. Hydro plants are dependable and long-lived, and their maintenance costs are low compared to coal or nuclear plants.

There is one thing that may increase hydropower's costs in the future. The procedure for licensing a dam has become a lengthy and expensive process. Many environmental impact studies must be undertaken. And some times as many as 13 state and federal agencies must be consulted. It takes anywhere from five to seven years just to get a license to build a dam" Note what might drive up the price.T.S.

I'm a little cautious, but I live in a state where there was a big mess (http://www.hanford.gov). Cleaning these sites up is now costing a lot of money, and public health was definitely endangered. One could always argue that lessons were learned, and thus safety will be dramatically improved, but I don't see people flocking to live near nuclear power plants.

I would prefer that we work on developing more efficient wind and solar power. We could also do a lot to cut our energy consumption, and limit the amount that we need to create to begin with.

Its about time we built more nuclear power plants.

We have been sending the waste into space on the shuttle for decades now, problem solved. These plants can be cheaply cooled and controlled if built on the seashore, problem solved.

I completely oppose, this is absolutely the wrong direction we need to go in. This makes us a huge target for terrorism endangering us even further. We need solar in every home in every car. We need to harness the wind and stay in harmony with nature. Nuclear power is dangerous and will be a huge expense to build, not only that it produces dangerous waste that will need to be stored somewhere. It's ridiculous. I can't believe it's happening. We have to stop this, or endanger our future generations.
