Is the Nexus One manufactured by Google?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

No it is not. It is manufactured by HTC (much like many other Android based phones). The difference with the Nexus One is that it is sold through Google as Google's phone. HTC is not the company that distributes the hardware to the carriers like they do with the Hero, for example.

Google is not a hardware company and stayed out of the mix and played to their strengths by creating the software only. The other added benefit is that in other cases, Google licenses the Android OS to the hardware companies (HTC, Motorola, etc) and can license any version as they wish. This is why we saw Android 2.0 on the Nexus One at launch while the Motrola's Droid (which was new and hot) was still parading Android 1.6 at the same time.

http://www.ubergizmo.com/photos/2010/1/nexus-one-app-40-hero-back.jpg there's a picture of the back that shows the HTC logo.

Google is quiet about it since it's published as the Google phone. You can't see it at HTC's site or T-Mobile's site. It's sold exclusively through Google.
