Is the MacBook worth getting over an i7 quad core desktop for non gaming uses, but photo and video maybe later

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

MacBook is a very capable laptop, very easy to use, well built and a simply good looking machine. it's perfect for everyday use, unless you want to get into serious photo/video editing - in that case I'd go with Mac Pro or high end windows machine, since no laptop is a mach for it.

I'd suggest you go to Apple store and play with it for a while to get a feel of it. If Apple store is too far, talk to friend who's using MacBook and try it. It all depends on how familiar and satisfied you are with Mac OS X - the hardware is really good (again - for everyday use).

check www.apple.com for tech. specs - see if that fits your needs.
also check http://www.mahalo.com/MacBook for more info.

personally I'd go with MacBook - it a lovely little thing.

hope that helps.

Two different animals, in my opinion. If you do not plan to move your computer, get the desktop. A notebook always makes tradeoffs in performance and features to allow for mobility. If you want to move the thing, then get a notebook. In that case, it's a great question whether you should move to a MacBook. I switched 18 months ago and have not regretted it. However, I switched back for business, since I needed certain Windows software and did not want to deal with Parallels or VMware on my MacBook.

Be prepared for better performance and choice of apps on Windows. Also be prepared for random crashes and malicious software. If your favored software runs on a Mac buy the best Mac you can. If your favorite software runs on Windows (and your career depends on it) look into the means for disk imaging and regular backups.
