Is the human heart on the left side of the body or the center?

I had a medical student tell me it was really in the center, even though I always thought it was on the left side.
Tip for best answer: M$0.25

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My medical student friend says that it is more in the center with an inclination to the left

A question still lingers in the air. Why do we feel the heart to the left?
I found the answer here:
quote Your heart is a single organ, but it acts as a double pump. The first pump carries oxygen-poor blood to your lungs, where it unloads carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen. It then delivers oxygen-rich blood back to your heart. The second pump delivers oxygen-rich blood to every part of your body. Blood needing more oxygen is sent back to the heart to begin the cycle again.
Your right ventricle pumps blood to your lungs and your left ventricle pumps blood all around your body. The muscular walls of the left ventricle are thicker than those of the right ventricle, making it a much more powerful pump. For this reason, it is easiest to feel your heart beating on the LEFT SIDE(my emphasis) of your chest.

The heart is located just behind and slightly left of the breastbone (not merely left, but slightly left from the center).
Therefore, if someone say that the heart is located in the middle of the chest, between the two lungs, he/she is also correct.

Our heart is located slightly to the left of the center of the human chest, between the 2 lungs.
