Is the Holoholo Balance Board a good gift for fitness enthusiasts working on balance or strength training?

Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It looks like a great Balance trainer, I am not sure how much strength it will help you develop. With that said it looks like a board of wood glued to a tube, you could probably make one in your back shed.

I work out at Gold's Gym Venice -- where lots of very serious body builders belong (it's the 'Mecca of bodybuilding') including Lou Ferrigno and just about everyone you see on Muscle & Fitness magazine.

I see several of these Balance Board around the gym, and they *are* used, but not very often. They seem to be a fad from what I see from the serious fitness people. So, I'm a 'no' on this for fitness, but a 'yes' for balance training.

This board is not designed for strength training and is not necessarily designed for "fitness," as much as balance. If it is for a person that is into board sports. I messed with one for a short while at my company gym and it is definitely tricky. I am not a serious fitness enthusiast, but I found it pretty fun in a "man vs. machine" way. It was fun and it wore me out, but I am not by any means in excellent shape. I think it would assist someone that is a skateboarder or surfer, so if the present is for them, it is definitely not a typical thoughtless gift. As a former skater that is now inept on a board, I would be happy to get one and they aren't THAT expensive, considering most quality exercise and sports items aren't cheap. It looks nice and is sturdy. If the person does not participate in board sports or isn't into yoga or something, it may spend more time under the bed than under the tree.

not really. It's an overpriced item. You could just as easily get a ball and a board and have a great balance board that would actually be more effective for a fraction of the price. Balance boards that just balls and boards are more effective because they are more difficult to use and therefore utilize your muscles more and increase the workout you get.
