Is the Hajj becoming big business in Saudi Arabia?

What is the Hajj? Why is the Hajj becoming bigger than it was in Saudi Arabia? Are more people traveling to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The Hajj is indeed becoming big business for Saudi Arabia in recent years and it is all about numbers as you may already know. The figures that I am mentioning are just a rough estimate but many sources agree on that about 2 million of Muslims begin the annual pilgrimage in any given year. Other sources talk of 2.5 million of visiting Muslims today and the total number of tourists to Mecca and Medina, home to the prophet Muhammad, is expected to rise dramatically in the near future. You might want to look at a newspaper report that details all the numbers and figures involving the religious pilgrimage you are asking about, explaining all the financial and economic implications of the visits. The link to this particular report is here for you:

The Hajj being a source of pilgrimage centered in Saudi Arabia is indeed becoming a bigger draw for Islamic pilgrims and tourists alike. Around the Hajj luxury hotels have been built at staggering values and continue to draw people in. The less luxurious hotels were taken away and in the building of these new ones some homes were destroyed which have left some people with no choice but to relocate. However, the changes with the Hajj have created a new source of revenue and interest and are largely becoming a bigger attraction for Mecca. Another reason that was put forth for all the changes is that Mecca is the center of Islam and they want it and everything around it to be the best and that is why they have renovated so much in Mecca around the Hajj.

The Hajj still maintains the traditions as it has before, and it is the surrounding areas that have made it become a bigger attraction religiously and otherwise.
