Is the four hour work week BALONEY?

Everyone and their mother is reading Tim Ferris' "The Four Hour Work Week."

Do you believe it, live the dream, or think it's just pitching an unachievable promise?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I don't think it's a worthy goal. It might be achievable, but achieving it is neither wise or fulfilling in my mind. First, you'll have to make a tremendous number of financial sacrifices to achieve your dream. If you aren't working 50+ hours a week, it's going to cost you. That's just how it works. Sure, your business may run day to day without you, but that isn't a license to take time off.

When you take your eyes off your business, things always go south. I can think of countless people who thought they were out of the rat race, only to be pulled back in when things took a turn for the worst. The secret isn't to get out of the race; it's to love being in it.

It is baloney for the vast majority of the human population. You would either have to be born to a very rich family or to work very hard to be able to survive just working four hours a week. I think four hours a day is a more realistic goal. A four hour work week is also possible for those who know how to see work from another perspective. People who enjoy their work rarely feel it is work. There may be some part of their work that they don't enjoy, and it could be about four hours a week.
