Is the foreign film Raise the Red Lanterns based on a true story?
This is one of my most favorite foreign films, yet I find it disturbing in some aspects as well. Is this movie based on a true story? If not, is it based on facts that this type of thing really happened. I know that men had more than one wife, but did they actually use red lanterns to denote which one he would be spending time with? Have you seen them film? If so, what is your reaction?

No, this film is an adaption by Ni Zhen of the 1990 novel Wives and Concubines by Su Tong.
