Is the Flamingo hotel a tribute to Bugsy Siegel?
I remember hearing when I was in Las Vegas at age 14, that the Flamingo hotel was credited to Bugsy Siegel. If my memory serves me correctly there was a movie based off of him as well. So I am curious to know if this is the original hotel that Siegel built, or if it has been rebuilt but is tribute to him. Also is there any indication that the hotel is tribute to him, or giving him credit for it? Is there a plaque or a statue somewhere doing so?

Not really a tribute but he played an important role in building it. This is according to an article I've read that Flamingo was the first of Las Vegas' glittering casinos. It was built using mob money under the supervision of violent and colorful Bugsy Siegel.
Siegel is a long-term associate of Meyer Lansky and Lucky Luciano. Luciano was one of the top two powers in organized crime in America. They came west in the late 30s to handle the betting empire of the mob. Siegle made Las Vegas, then a dusty stop in the middle of the desert into a glittering gambling paradise.
Siegle named the hotel Flamingo which is the nickname of his mistress [[Virginia Hill\\ and the former mistress of numerous high mafiosi from coast to coast. The construction in the beginning was full of troubles that led to inflation of the costs. The investors were anxious because their investments are gobbled up from $2 million to 6 million. They are worried that Bugsy was wasting their money.
[[Del E. Webb\\ the building contractor was concerned about the sudden influx of mobsters on the site and complained to Siegel but he assured him and said this classic line, "We only kill each other."
Bugsy was assassinated the following June and by the end of the year, a new management took over and had turned the Flamingo around and made a $4 million profit. The Flamingo hotel was a huge success even if it did kill Bugsy Siegel.
