Is Symantec the same thing as Norton AntiVirus?

What is Symantec? I was looking through my recycle bin and saw a file called Symantec. When I searched, I found a lot of other Symantec files. Is Symantec part of Norton or is it maybe a virus? Is it safe to delete Symantec files?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Norton is a product of Symantec Corporation. “What is Symantec” is a vast definition. Symantec provides products and services to help individuals and enterprises assure the security, availability, and integrity of their information. One of Symantec's most well-known products is the Norton which helps protect users and systems against Trojans, worms and other security risks, such as spyware and spam. Other Symantec brands are pcAnywhere, WinFax PRO, Partition Magic, Symantec Antivirus, Symantec Gateway Security, Symantec Network Security, Insight Inquire, Backup Exec etc. to know more about Symantec visit the Symantec website.
Norton is a part of Symantec. So may be the installed files are showing as Symantec. Don’t worry It is not a virus. But some time viruses are shown as antivirus. So to get confirmed run the full system scan if they are unwanted then it will be detected. Then delete them. No need to delete files manually.
Norton is Symantec’s home and home office brand. Symantec produce only corporate and end point edition of Antivirus. So both are same and reliable only the difference of edition.
