Is St. Louis, MO part of the Midwest or the South?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I believe Missouri is always considered part of the Midwest

By sheer location, it is in the Midwest. However, since I went to college and lived there for several years, I can tell you that a lot of Missouri seems like the stereotypical south. Even the Missouri Compromise made the state at odds with being a free state or a slave state.
I think the dividing line nowadays is Interstate 70, actually. That seems to separate "soda" (south) from "pop" (north), too. I-70 cuts through both St. Louis and Kansas City but, in my experience, St. Louis "seems" more southern.

I say it's Midwest. It's the same latitude as Kansas and Illinois which are both considered Midwest. Also, during the Civil War it was cutoff from trading with the South and remained loyal to the Union.

By the looks of it, it looks like it is located on the Mid-East
