Is spamming other sites against Mahalo's Terms and Conditions?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Our terms and conditions do not apply to behavior on other sites. It is up to those sites to decide what is and is not allowed in their system.

So ... Mahalo's okay with its users giving the impression of "spammers" to folks unfamiliar with this site?

I gotta say, that rather drastically lowers my opinion of this site.

Do you further respect my right to my opinion, and how this policy affects that opinion?

I'm not really sure I see the problem, when we first launched we saw frequent questions comparing our site to Yahoo Answers. We just let our users answer the questions and we would never expect Yahoo mods to track down who asked the questions and ban them. It's a valid question and we respect our user's right to ask it on our service.

I'm not sure how anyone could expect Mahalo to police the whole internet. What people do on other websites should be dealt with by the other websites. If Yahoo or Askville feel a question is "spam" it is up to them to deal with the member on THERE site since it is not possible for Mahalo to know which user, on their service, is the user posting the "spam" on other sites.

You hit the nail on the head, I don't think the links you provided fall under the "false, misleading, derogatory, or otherwise offensive matter" umbrella.

I would like to stress that if someone from askville posted a similar question here, there is nothing in the ToS that I linked to that that forbids it. Askville would not punish the user on their site for using the hyperlink in that way.

Just because there is a hyper link in a single question, does not make it spam. If you go back to the thread on Askville, I could not help but notice Askville has not taken it down and there are now actual answers that are more than just "hey this is spam" (including some by you). These answers provide actual analysis of a legit question. Askville now has in it's system your research. The discussion was started, answers were eventually provided and now that question goes to the archives. Every body wins, right?

In reasonable amounts these types of questions work just fine on Q&A services.

Did you read the site you just linked to?

"You are granted a limited, revocable, and nonexclusive right to create a hyperlink to the home page of Askville so long as the link does not portray Askville, its affiliates, or their products or services in a false, misleading, derogatory, or otherwise offensive matter."

Maybe I'm the one with the bizarre opinion, but I consider spammers to be derogatory and offensive.

But regardless, you've given me the answer to my question. So thank you for that.

Many sites have terms and conditions that specify their users may not advertise the site on other sites. I'm not claiming that it's easily enforceable, but to say that you don't at all care what kind of reputation your users give your site... that's just wrong.

As for the supposed inability to figure out which user this is on Mahalo? Come one. He's AndyK on Askville and AndrewK on Yahoo. You really don't think the admins could figure out who he is here?

What your talking about really only applies to affiliate/referral programs. It doesn't apply to Q and A sites. Do you know of any community type sites that have a TOS forbidding this sort of thing?
