Yes, actually, I think as a society we are.
I feel like the generation that we are raising now is rather coddled - think about it - they are taught that everyone wins, spanking your kid is horribly brutal, they are given everything and work for nothing and have no idea what it's like to have a real accomplishment.
Seriously, the self entitlement displayed by college age kids and below is shocking. They are taught that everyone is a winner, and frankly, that is just not true. What happens when they go out and try to make it in the real world? It's a brutal place - unless you bust your butt, you lose. THAT IS LIFE. You think that someone is going to give you an awsome job just because? NOPE. You have to earn it, and mommy and daddy aren't going to be able to support you forever.
That's not to say that there are some winners out there, but I see mostly spoiled teenagers who don't have a job, don't have to work for anything, who have no idea of the value of money and expect the world to cowtow to them.
When I was a kid, I got spanked when I did wrong, I got a job when I was 16 and had to work hard for everything I have today. I learned that yes, sometimes your soccer team is going to get owned - it makes you work harder to achieve your goals and makes winning and victory that much better - it's the same thing in the real world - work hard and you will advance and achieve. Sit there and ask for a handout or whine cause you didn't get it? You're going to get rolled over.
My opinion, hope it's not offensive.
