Smoking is deemed a very significant factor in causing heart disease. Whether it is the most significant is up for debate. While smokers are 2-4 times more likely to get heart disease over non-smokers, there are other factors that can be just as bad of a risk. Included in this list are people who are overweight or obese which is a leading cause of diabetes and high cholesterol which are two more big risk factors. Other factors such as age or hereditary genes cannot be helped, but a person can do something about the smoking and obesity factors. Exercise can help to play a part in keeping the obesity factor under control. Regular exercise on most days of the week whether it be walking, jogging, biking or cardio exercises in tandem with some sort of weight bearing exercise will go a long way in keeping body fat down. Most places seem to think 20 to 30 minutes a day will work.
