Definitely! It's funny that a dish that involves eggs is not usually considered a breakfast dish, but it's not. It's not a meaty savory like roast beef would be, but it's definitely a lunch or dinner thing. In fact, I used it in my menu plans not too long ago, with a traditional German broccoli/bacon quiche that's sometimes served as a birthday dinner dish.

Quiche can be made in many different ways, but the best-known classic is Quiche Lorraine. More recently, people have been being creative and doing quiches in all kinds of styles, from Italian ones that include prosciutto, Asiago cheese and pesto to Tex-Mex ones with salsa, cilantro and carnitas.

Quiche usually involves crust (not always), eggs, cheese, various veggies, and sometimes meat. It's a pretty substantial dish, definitely a main course, and usually a meal in itself.

Quiche can be a main dish if you use ingredients that include meat, cheese or vegetables. But a quiche can also be a dessert if you include a sweet filling instead of the meat. Quiche is one of those foods than can be almost anything you want it to be just by changing some of the ingredients.

Quiche is basically a salty pie made in different ways and with all kinds of ingredients: vegetables, vegetable, fish, meat, cheese...in fact a good remedy especially to reuse left-overs...because you can use any ingredients you like. since it has the 3 basic components: starch, veggy and proteins you can have it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack.

Quiche is now a classic dish of French cuisine, quiche actually originated in Germany, in the medieval kingdom of Lothringen, under German rule, and which the French later renamed Lorraine. The word ‘quiche’ is from the German ‘Kuchen’, meaning cake.

Quiche is definitely a main dish in our house! One of our favorites is Broccoli Quiche in Potato Crust. For dessert we have baked apples with cinnamon topped with vanilla ice cream. Try this quiche and enjoy it as a delicious, healthy main dish:

1 package (10 ounces) frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and squeezed dry
1 cup shredded nonfat or reduced fat Cheddar or Swiss cheese
1 cup nonfat cottage cheese
1 cup fat free egg substitue
1 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped onion (optional)
2 medium potatoes, scrubbed

1. Combine all of the ingredients except for the potatoes in a large
bowl, and stir to mix well. Set aside
2. Coat a 9 inch deep dish pie pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Slice the potatoes 1/4 inch thick and arrange the slices in a
single layer over the bottom and sides of the pan to form a crust.
Pour the broccoli mixture into the crust.
3. Bake at 375 degrees for about 45 minutes or until the top is golden
brown and a sharp knife inserted in the center of the quiche comes
out clean. Remove from oven and let set for 5 minutes before
slicing.
