Is playing the guitar using tabs really playing the guitar?
Do guitar players judge other guitar players differently if they are playing by tabs and not by reading music? Would you suggest that a person that wants to play the guitar start by reading musical notes or is playing tabs an effective manner in which to learn?
Are there guitar purists that can tell if a person is using tabs to learn to cover a song?
How much of a difference is there in technique when using the tab method over the musical note method?
Can a person write their own music if they only play using tabs or does a person that composes need to know how to read music??

It's a good question. Yes, it's true that there are guitar players who think that if you play tabs you are only an amateur. These players usually have studies in the musical domain. On the other hand in my opinion you can sing by tabs and be a good musician and composer. Many great guitarists never had studies and still they composed music in the 70's that still lasts. I don't play by tabs any more but I don't play by notes either, I just use my ear. Many people say that is not professional but my idea is that music addresses to your hearing senses so I'm trying to Improve my hearing capacity so that I would be able to play anything just after I hear it.
A person can write his/her own music/composition even if they use only tabs. Knowing how to read music and some music theory helps a lot tough.
