No, Arizona State University is not a big ten school. The big ten is comprised of universities from the midwest ranging between Pennsylvania to Iowa. Arizona State University is a Pac-10 school, which is an association of western United States' colleges. As of July, 2010 the Pac-10 became the "Pac-12" when Colorado and Utah joined the conference. With the new competition, ASU athletes hope to take advantage of the expansion to bolster their popularity and to establish themselves as sport champions in the "NEW" Pac-10. The Sun Devils' last appearance in a Bowl Game was in the Holiday Bowl in 2007. The importance of a football teams is exemplified in the fact that the university was founded in 1885 and a football team was established in 1896 with a season record of 0-1. The 1897 team was more successful, ending with a 3-0 record. ASU joined the Pac-10 in 1977. They had been a member of the WAC, the Western Athletic Conference since 1962 but due to the lack of notable competition and recognition, they opted to join the Pac-10. Prior to the WAC, Arizona State belonged to the Border Conference.
