There is a retirement community in the state of Arizona that is known as Sun City West. However, is Phoenix, AZ a good place to retire to, I’m not too sure about that, even though I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that some have chosen to retire to Phoenix, although I must admit I wouldn’t recommend it.
Why is that, because having lived in Phoenix all my life, I know about the harsh temperatures that can plague this state during the summer months. It doesn’t take much for Phoenix to get over 110 degrees in the months of July and August. I remember my parents both having serious problems with the heat and humidity the older they got to the point where they wouldn’t venture outside during this time of year too often unless they had to.
So Phoenix can be pretty hard on the elderly during these months, there are better places in Arizona that don’t get these extreme type of temperatures in the summer for retirees to look into such as Flagstaff or Payson, and of course Sun City. But keep in mind although the summers won’t be as harsh there is a possibility in the winter that these areas could get snow. Perhaps no place is perfect especially when it comes to the weather, but I just can’t recommend Phoenix in the summer time. If someone were to retire there, as there are some retirement communities, my recommendation would be to find somewhere else to go during the months of July and August as these months can be almost unbearable.
