That's a tough one to answer because people have different way of judging who's best. Is it the quarterback with the most Super Bowl wins? Is it the quarterback with the highest passer rating? The most touchdowns in history?

Let's see how Manning stacks up against the best in those 3 criteria.

Most Super Bowl Wins:
Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana -4
Troy Aikman, Tom Brady - 3
John Elway, Ben Rothlisberger, Bob Griese, Roger Staubach, Jim Plunkett, Bart Starr - 2

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_quarterbacks_with_multiple_Super_Bowl_wins
Manning - 1

Best Quarterback Rating

1 Kurt Warner 97.2
2 Steve Young 96.8
3 Joe Montana 92.3
4 Jeff Garcia 88.3
5 PEYTON MANNING 88.1
6 Daunte Culpepper 88.0
7 Brett Favre 86.9
8 Otto Graham 86.6
9 Dan Marino 86.4

Most Passing Yards
1 BRETT FAVRE 68,468
2 Dan Marino 61,361
3 John Elway 51,475
4 PEYTON MANNING 49,533
5 Warren Moon 49,325
6 Fran Tarkenton 47,003
7 Vinny Testaverde 46,233
8 Drew Bledsoe 44,611
9 Dan Fouts 43,040
10 Joe Montana

I'd say passing yards is slightly misleading because there is much more emphasis on passing now than years ago, many great quarterbacks from the past didn't throw for as many yards due to shorter season, more emphasis on running, more wide open offenses today and defensive rule changes.

Touchdown Passes

1 BRETT FAVRE 491
2 Dan Marino 420
3 PEYTON MANNING 362
4 Fran Tarkenton 342
5 John Elway 300
6 Warren Moon 291
7 Johnny Unitas 290
8 Vinny Testaverde 275
9 Joe Montana

Manning ranks near the top in several categories, still in the end comes down to victories, I think. If he can get another Super Bowl victory or two Super Bowl victories, I would say he could very well go down as the best QB of all time. His other numbers will be at the top barring injury or collapse. As of now, I don't think he's the best of all time, top 5 though.

Saying the best can be very subjective. Pure stats don't mean so much, this is a different time for football then in the past, teams are very pass oriented, Super Bowl wins? Tom Brady has won more in this era, and likely will win more. I think in the end he will likely stack up as better in some areas, and not better in others, but how can anyone honestly say he is better then guys like Marino, Elway, Montana and the like, and as for who is the best of all time. that will be debated endlessly for a long time.

Personally, I don't think he is the best. He has fallen short many times, despite playing on some very talented teams. I think his stats are greatly inflated because he is has a tendency to rack up points, even when he is ahead, instead of running out the clock.
Although I am a Brady fan, I think that probably Dan Marino ranks up there near the top, he was able to do some amazing things on some pretty mediocre teams.

If he wins a second Super Bowl title, only four quarterbacks will have more rings -- Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana with four each and Troy Aikman and Tom Brady with three apiece.
