Is paypal still used by websites? Is it a trustworthy site?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Here in Ireland, PayPal has its European headquarters, and seems to be adding to its workforce every few months. The link below features an announcement from last year, in which the company's president Scott Thompson is quoted as saying that the company's business was growing in spite of the global downturn.

This makes a certain lot of sense, as the advent of the recession / downturn saw many people shopping more online, with many items proving to be cheaper from eBay etc. Paypal is of course intrinsically linked with eBay (it is an eBay subsidiary) and eBay itself is become increasingly popular.
As regards trustworthiness, thus far PayPal appears to be a pretty secure site, and you can always take extra precautions yourself, eg use a unique password for your account, limit the funds held in the account, etc.
You might be surprised at how often you start to see the PayPal logo around in the near future.

M$In The Netherlands, where I live, they have joined together with the largest online second-hand shop, called 'Marktplaats". Any paymend done there through Paypal is guaranteed up to 200 Euros, in case the seller doesn't deliver. So there they aren't only the money transferrer, they are also part of the insurance.
Also, this very site, Mahalo, uses Paypal to pay its users (that's us, Mahaloians), as soon as we request a payment, and we qualify for payment. And also for people how want to but Mahalo-dollars, in order to finance high profile pages.
I myself use it extensively, on both these sites, and to great satisfaction.

M$Paypal is awesome and if you ever buy anything you usually wouldn't buy or spend a lot at once, Paypal will call to verify that it's actually you spending that money.

My feeling was that Paypal was growing too, good to see the evidence to back up the feeling. With more online shopping, more online freelancing, new online business models like rev sharing, I can't see it going anywhere but up.
