Is our society slowly learning that apologies are pointless?

Every week I read another apology from a politician, star or famous freak.... and they really don't add up to much. I take them with a grain of salt. How about you?

In John Galliano's official apology, he 'denies the claims made against him'. Doesn't that cancel out the apology itself? After all, it was video tapped and can be seen on Youtube. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/02/john-galliano-apologizes-apology_n_830267.html

So often I hear the words "I'm sorry" spoken with sarcasm, or with a "...but" at the end.

Is it hard for you to fess up and apologize?
When you apologize, do you mean it?
When you hear someone apologize, do you believe them?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Who is a politician? - A person who never apologizes for his mistakes and only does so when politically or socially pressurized and even if he apologizes, like saying, “I am sorry,” he is trying to convey you that “You just wait man! Now, you will be very much sorry for letting me do this.”

I don’t think that it is the apology that has become pointless, rather I think today we don’t have a strong flawless character and the courage to gracefully accept our mistakes. It takes a lot of courage to accept a mistake than it takes to point a finger against someone. Only a righteous person and a person with a strong heart can apologize honestly.

Like I said a good person whenever gets aware of his mistake, he admits it, but why does he do it? Because, he cannot live with a guilt. He has to answer himself and until and unless he confesses or admits that he has done wrong and it needs to be admitted and corrected, he would not feel peace in his heart.

Do the politicians have something called 'heart' beneath their chests? I strongly doubt it. They would live a long luxurious never-get-retired life with no guilt at all for all the crimes they committed and they have this nice art of influencing others whosoever comes near them. I am not generalizing anything.

The pace of life, the Metro Culture, the consumerism and high aspirations to become rich, famous and powerful in less time and less effort makes it hard for people to admit their mistakes and apologize. Even when they do so, it is just for the sake of doing it. They do not mean anything.

Regarding politicians, whether its my country or yours' or any other place, I wont ever believe that they apologize honestly. And if you come across one single person, I bet you, he won’t be a politician. And if he is a politician, then surely he needs some sort of emergent counseling.

I'm pretty sure that we will forever hear apologies. But, I am also pretty sure that we as a society are finally understanding that an apologies does not excuse the offense. I am glad that you are sorry for your action, but that does not excuse your action. Maybe as a society we are starting to think that people are resposible for their actions.
