Is "nu-metal" still a viable genre of music?
I first heard of "nu-metal" around ten years ago ... seemed like a term that was just coined to throw a blanket category over some bands that were popular at the time (Korn, Slipknot, and Linkin Park are strong examples). I haven't heard people speak of "nu-metal" recently, or categorize any new artists as being of this genre.
Does "nu-metal" still exist as a viable and evolving genre of music? If so, what are some new bands that would be filed under that genre?

I personally would not consider it a genre no. I'd call it more a marketing ploy. Nu meaning "new" is better in many of the younger generation's eyes. That being said I don't consider any of the bands above true metal. Linkin Park, Papa Roach are alternative, how that even comes close to metal is beyond my comprehension. System of a Down, Korn and Slipknot are good bands but again, not really metal. I'd go as far as to call them rock, but not metal. Looking it up they have smacked a definition on this whole nu-metal thing...

Nu metal built on rap metal’s foundation of rock and rap collaboration, but it emphasized some of the more aggressive elements of its musical forebears. Intense and angry lyrics, off-pitch guitars, and heavily amplified beats were typical of nu metal songs.

Still sounds like a sad attempt to make softer bands cooler by sneaking them into the classification of metal.
