Is now the time to be looking for a new job, if you already have one?

Perhaps this seems like a strange question because of the slow economy. But, usually it is a reasonable job strategy to be on the lookout for potential opportunities for career growth. Depending on your tenure in your current position, and assuming you have the skills to fill a position that you've seen, is it 'safe' to consider leaving a current role for a new job?

What is your experience right now in your industry? Are people staying put or taking advantage of new opportunities?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Right now, I don't think the job market as recovered quite enough to go looking for a job if you already have one. Now, some exceptions can be made if you suspect that you may be laid off soon or if you're so unhappy with your job that you have to find somewhere else to go. But the fact is that unemployment is still extremely high and it would be wise to hang on to any type of income you may be receiving right now. If unemployment begins to drop soon, then my answer may change.

If you are considering of switching jobs, these are some factors that you need to consider, especially during this time of recession:
*Make sure that you are clear-eyed as possible about changing your career or job.
*The new job could pay you more but there is a possibility that they will lay you off after a few months. Make sure you know how financially stable your new employer compared to your present employer.
*Are the things that made you want to switch job can be remedied by speaking up?
It is silly to say that one should not quit a job and apply for a new one during economic crisis. There are still chances that you will find you dream job, one that has more financial benefits for you but you should do it with extra caution.
