Is now a good time to invest in the stock market?

Is now a good time for me to start investing in the stock market? Do you think there will be a better time to invest in the next couple years?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It’s always a good time to invest in the stock market. As one stock falls, another rises. This means it is always possible to make money in the stock market. It is important, especially as we are recovering from the recession, to diversify your portfolio as much as you possibly can. People get in trouble in the stock market when they only invest in one or two stocks. This is very risky, especially now with companies sharply rising and falling. You can lose all your money very quickly if you don’t diversify.

The best and safest way to invest is and always has been through a mutual fund. Mutual funds are managed by professional money managers. Your money manager will make sure your money is going into the right stocks that will perform the way you want your money to perform. Mutual funds are very diversified which makes them a smart way to invest no matter when you choose to do it.

I don’t think it would be better to wait to invest in the stock market. The longer you wait to start investing, the less time your money has to grow.

In fact, if you wait 10 years before investing, you would have to contribute $175 a month to catch up to the amount you would have if you invested today with just $75 a month.

Chief economist from Credit Suisse commented yesterday that this year should be a good year for stock markets in developed markets.

He also commented that stock markets in the developing markets (south america, china, india ...) might be overheated and are still potentially overpriced.
