The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that was founded in 1982. They advocate, educate and mobilize their grassroots membership to help develop better-informed citizens and voters on the importance of Social Security and Medicare as well as lobbying members of Congress to vote for legislation that will strengthen these programs. Led by former Congresswoman, Barbara B. Kennelly, the National Committee has been a major voice for seniors in many legislative battles such as the 2005 Bush Social Security Privatization plan.
