Is meditation considered healthy by most experts?

Should I do meditation to help with stress? What sort of research has been done about yoga and health?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Meditation has been shown to relieve stress. I would highly recommend a regular practice as it has no side effects, is free, and may help. There are many styles of meditation. Westerners often find the idea of watching their thoughts. i.e. a more Buddhist style, as irritating. If you do, please don't give up. There are many other styles.

For example, you may chant a mantra, you may focus on a candle or a mandala. There are moving meditations. It's an old book, I'm sure you can find it for cheap online called "Chop Wood Carry Water" that was about seeing a moving meditation in your everyday mundane tasks.

I would also recommend that in the beginning you take a workshop or visit an ashram to learn meditation. It's so much easier than trying to learn from a book. Many yoga studios offer special seminars on meditation because it's a part of yoga and not the whole practice.

Yes, it is, due to its ability to achieve peace of mind. I found that a physician named Dean Ornish discovered that meditation can reverse heart disease. Another Australian psychiatrist, Ainslie Meares, found that 10% of the cancer patients had their tumors significantly reduced in size when they practiced meditation.

Other tremendous benefits of mediation are decreased anger, anxiety, stress, and depression. It also increased concentration and focus.

So, I would like to say that everybody try to practice mediation a bit regularly.
