Mass Effect 1 - the first person action RPG by BioWare is available for the Xbox 360 and PC. It is single player only. Mass Effect 2 has been available for the Xbox 360 and PC for about a year, and was just released for the Playstation 3 last week. Mass Effect 2 is a single player game just like ME1.
An internet connection was not needed to play either Mass Effect game; however there was downloadable content for both games like special equipment or extra missions. Some of this was free when you purchased the game new and others were paid for.
Currently there's no Mass Effect board game, but BioWare does sell Mass Effect merchandise like posters, clothing, action figures and other collectables. http://biowarestore.com/mass-effect-apparel
