Is L.A. Law (1986-1994) the best Legal drama Tv series from the past 20 years? If not, what is your favorite legal drama show? LAW & ORDER?

I'm not sure why, but I never quite got into either LA Law or Law and Order. I enjoyed Ally MacBeal, but I now tend to look back on it as more of a comedy. Another David E. Kelley series I liked was Boston Legal, which was slightly more serious, but like "Ally", in my opinion still had a few too many "far-fetched" cases.

There was a good Canadian show in the late '80's, early '90s called Street Legal. For me, this one had just the right mix of everything - the cases, characters / personal relationships, humour, and of course, the all-important courtroom exchanges.

There weren't as many videos available as I would have liked, but the ones I found should give a small idea of what the show was about.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

There's a special chemistry between the two main actors: Marriska Hargitay both an Emmy and Golden Globe winner and Christopher Meloni who was nominated for an Emmy. You may have great story lines in a series but unless the chemistry emanates from the actors, it's vacant. As you view the blooper reel you will see they really are having fun on the set and that shows up on the screen.

I have to admit, I've never really been into L.A. Law or The Practice. My favourite Law show would have to be Boston Legal. In fact I'm glad you posted that as a viable option. I didn't think many people knew or cared about the series.

The reason I love Boston Legal so much is because of the depth of the character development and the relationships that are both created and shifted around over the course of the series. I love how stubborn some of the characters can be. Even Denise. The way her character arcs is the most fascinating to me. After her fiance dies, she utterly regresses, and it takes Brad's bluntness to bring her out of it.

Oh, and not to mention, the cases are fantastic. I don't remember a single closing argument that Alan gave, where I didn't get goosebumps. I've cried to that show. I've laughed hysterically to it. There's nothing that Boston Legal lacks in my opinion. Great question!

LA Law was the BEST show ever. I'll never forget the scene where Roz dies. It was horrifying AND funnier than hell.

Of course, there were some down times, but... there were some really good messages, ideas... and acting!

I'll also never forget the case where a lady wanted to be cryogenically frozen. One of the lawyers does some work which allows her to make a decision to do it within hours. A really "what would YOU do" kind of story...

GREAT show... The tech might be a little out of date (Arnie had the big brick cell phone), but I could keep watching the show FOREVER!

I think the best one is The First 48 as it is real cases and shows the procedures and interviews of real people. If yiou just want a series than Hawaii Five-0, and it is still on TV everyday so it counts for the last twenty years.
