You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

While I think that John Mayer is a talented musician (and a decent stand up comedian from what I've heard), I personally think that the variety show format is waaaay past its prime. Rosie O'Donnell found out the hard way that producing a successful variety show is a lot tougher than it looks.

The networks may be hoping for a revival of Variety Shows, however, due to the fact that they are usually very inexpensive to make (just like reality programs), and I'm sure that John Mayer has a lot of really talented, famous friends that he can drag on the show each week...so I'm not counting him out just yet.

That's exactly what I was going to say. The only way anyone has been able to sell a variety show for the last 20 or more years has been either A. in the late show format, which isn't really a variety show and also rides on the back of its host, or B. as a game show, i.e. America's Got Talent. Otherwise, nobody's interested. I'm sure Rosie O'Donnell knows waaay more famous people who would apeal to the audience that would watch variety shows (read: not young people) than Mayer, as well. I'm going to hazard a guess and say flop. The variety show is dead.

He's at least funnier than Rosie, so his personality could potentially carry it further than her's. It all depends on how it's structured and the talent they can get but I can certainly envision it doing decently if it's well-done.
