Jazz music is generally considered harder to play than most types of music because of the runs, chords, syncopations, and difficulty to repeating what has been performed. However, it is only as hard as you make it. You will become more proficient as you practice, but unless you have a love for the style and a natural gift to feel out the music to ad lib and bring the music alive, the level of ability to play will cap at being able to play what has been played before you. Unlike classical music, there is no set formula for how music must be played, so there are multiple versions of the same songs. What you play as an instrumentalist will differ slightly from what you play as an accompanist for someone or a group singing because you will be supporting the singers versus outshining them as the lead without vocals.
