Not if you are an animal. LOL. Personally, I am not an avid fan of fur. I do not condemn people that do indulge in such fashion statements, but I am also not a supporter of fur fashions, nor would I ever consider wearing real fur myself. I remember my mother once had a coat made from rabbit fur and while it was very soft and fuzzy, it had a certain smell to it still and I never truly felt comfortable being close to her whenever she wore it. I love animals and I am very uncomfortable with the idea of animals being killed simply for people to wear their fur. For many individuals, animals have a very high status that almost resembles that attributed to their family members or children. Many people who grew up with animals or have grown very close to a pet, for example, could never bear the thought of somebody hurting an animal to benefit themselves. For these individuals, it may almost be the same as taking the skin off a human being and dressing oneself with it. I know this may sound like a very exaggerated view to someone who does not share the same feelings towards animals, however, the principle is the same: we should not exploit the lives or beauty of other creatures and beings simply to enhance our own lives or pleasures (unless there is a specific need for it). If, however, a person found himself in the wilderness with no food, shelter, and inappropriate clothing for the weather, I guess it would be okay to kill a larger animal for its fur (and for use of its meat as a food source) for the purpose of survival. However, using fur as fashion statements simply because “we can” reflects a kind of ignorance and lack of respect towards the other wonderful creatures with which we share this world.

No, I don't think it's wrong to wear fur. It's hard to demonstrate why it's really that different than leather, but leather gets a free pass for some reason. Then you switch over to exotic leathers (crocodile, etc.) and people start to get uncomfortable again. People base their choices on their emotions.

I think if you grow the fur on your body, you should be entitled to wear it. Some men, and a few women, really can't help it. We shouldn't stigmatize people for what they can't control.

As for the slaughter of animals to wear their fur, I'm not for it. I suppose if it happens to be a by product of another industry, like the meat industry, then maybe. But if animals are being killed specifically for their fur then no. I think many societies have evolved past the need for this kind of status symbol, especially since it harms other creatures for no good reason. The development of synthetics has come a long way. Of course, we could say that synthetics are killing our environment. But that is a whole other conundrum.

I don't think so as long as you catch, kill and eat the animal whose fur you're wearing. I think it more wrong to kill an animal and not use every part including the fur than to wear fur. Course, killing an animal just for it's fur is wrong as well. So it depends on the circumstance.

...I know lots of people who still catch, kill and eat animals and then make things out of the pelts. Perhaps my view is different because I'm from Alaska.. hunting for food is not irregular here...in fact in areas its vital to survival. I do know how to treat fur for use yes.

The animals bred for fur have their carcasses sold off for many different things, nothing is wasted.

That answer doesn't seem to reflect the real world. No one catches, kills, eats any animals and then makes a fur coat from its fur. For that matter, most fur bearing animals are not edible, although a few are. And furs used by furriers are mostly from commercial breeders. If you caught, killed, and ate some rabbits would you know how to treat their fur and make a hat or something? It seems wasteful to eat something and then not use the fur, if possible.

We wear leather, use it for other applications as well. We eat meat. Fur pelts kept humans warm for millenia.

There is nothing wrong in wearing fur. There is of course also nothing wrong in those that decide not to do so. Neither side should demonize the other.

It should be a matter of personal choice.
