Is it wrong to be fat?

If your overweight do you feel guilty about it? Do you remorse over too many years of overconsumption and poor diet?

No, I don't feel guilty. I developed a severe endocrine system problem while pregnant with my last child. There is no medication for it; I simply have to eat a certain way for a LONG time to correct it, and I will never be able to go back to a "normal" diet. I mean, two years ago after having severe flu at Christmas time, I wanted nothing but salsa for a week. Fresh-made salsa that contained nothing but tomatoes, tomatillos, jalapeno peppers, onions, garlic, lime, and cilantro. I managed to eat only 1/2 gallon in a week. I'd just had bad flu for a week the week before, and guess what? I ended up GAINING weight! Over 5 pounds in two weeks, the first week of which I was unable to keep much of anything down.

Once I found out what my problem was, I found a huge number of people who have the same problem. Many women get it during pregnancy. Others get it through a combination of factors. In many cases it's not severe overeating causing it, but not realizing early enough that there are certain things they can't be eating. Many eat too much grain and not enough protein for their personal metabolic needs.

Other people have problems that make it difficult to exercise. There is exercise-induced asthma, for example. Some people suffer from extreme migraine headaches that keep them immobile for long periods of time. There's an autoimmune thyroiditis that destroys the thyroid and lowers the metabolism, thus raising weight. There are other things that affect the thyroid, too.

I also think there is a lack of information out there about how various hormones can influence metabolism. It's not as simple as calories in/calories burned.

What I would feel guilty about is if I *did* know all this and then was judgmental about people. I will still catch myself doing this once in awhile, a sad attitude leftover from my skinny days. I've lost 35 pounds over the last year, but I have to lose at least that much again to be considered "normal", and that and a half to be "skinny". I exercise and stick to my way of eating as much as humanly possible. But I will still catch myself looking at super-obese people and thinking "why don't they *do* something about themselves?" But for all I know, they were heavier in the past, or they have some other problem that complicates weight loss. Kinda hard to jog when each step puts a half-ton of pressure on your knees!

I can not say that it is wrong to be fat, however it is impossible to be healthy and fat.

That is not true. A person can be fat and perfectly healthy.

Back in the old days, to be fat was a sign of wealth.
It was good to be fat, and considered a compliment. Skinny, back then, was an insult. Today, it's the opposite, and for good reason, considering health risks associated with being overweight. It puts strain on the heart, and can lead to different organs failing.
I'm overweight, by a few pounds.
I lost weight, then put it back on. I have to say, gaining the weight back, I feel fat. I can feel it beneath every action I do. When I lost weight, when I was exercising, my body worked better, blood flowed faster, and my extremities went numb far less.
Of course, I don't let it bother me. I make jokes about it to myself. I'm not sensitive about it at all. And I know if my life settled down or I stopped making excuses, I could take it off. But it's hard work.
So, to reiterate, no, I don't feel bad about being overweight. I don't regret it, nor do I say that I did not enjoy or indulge in life's simple pleasure of eating good food. I am happy.

Is it wrong to be fat?

It's not wrong to be fat, nor should you feel guilty about it, but if you have a poor diet in an unhealthful way, then you should do something about it if you are not feeling good about yourself, or want to live a long and healthy life. You should not dwell or remorse about what you ate in the past. Think now, this day forward, and what you will eat from now on.

Society and Media:

Our society and media puts weight implications on us through advertising, like "thin is in," and the news and media people get rewarded for losing weight. That's not true in all countries, but that's the way it is in the US. Just think if you are a sumo wrestler, is it wrong? As a society we don't heavily advertise or sell products that will gain (unless you're a body builder) you weight, but there are products that are advertised to lose you weight. It's generally thought of as healthier to be not overweight, but there have been famous overweight people who are excellent at what they do, and the extra pounds did not slow them down. I don't think being overweight is as bad as being too thin, and not getting enough nutrients or nourishment. There have been studies that show that thinner people have a longer life, yet that's not always true. I believe it's better to be comfortable with your weight, and have a healthy weight for your body and bone structure. All too often people are trying to put themselves into a body they were not genetically built for, and this is not something people should do, as you'll have unrealistic expectations. If you seek help with losing weight, or going on any sort of diet, I recommend you speak with your doctor.

Is being fat wrong? NO...

God's temple huh...So I guess some people have a larger temple. No, being overweight is not a sign of being unhealthy. I can speak from personal experience. I am overweight and perfectly healthy. How big? I am 6'1'' and 285 pounds. I am about 85 pounds overweight for what the world would consider my best weight according to the BMI. My blood pressure and cholesterol are normal and I have no other problems related to weight. I am able to run a mile in thirteen minutes and twenty seven seconds. which beats the police standards where I live by about a minute and eighteen seconds. I can bench press more then eighty two percent of my body weight at two hundred and thirty five pounds. I also meet or exceed all the standard requirements of the local police department. I am also able to to whatever I choose to do and my excess weight does not hinder me in any way. In fact if I was dropped in freezing water I would live longer then a twig; I mean thin person. IF there was a famine I would live longer then a thin person. I have yet to see a thin person win the worlds strongest man contest, or toss a caber any real distance. I have not seen many goth types able to bring a bull down by the horns and I have seen a lot of big cowboys do just that. Oh I almost forgot I am on no medications. So, is it wrong to be fat? NAH! Don't let the people fool you. You can be healthy, successful, and happy being fat. I know because I am.

There is one thing that thin people are better at then fat people. They excel at competitive eating competitions. In fact the current world record holder is a thin guy named Joey Chestnut who ate sixty six hot dogs and buns in twelve minutes. The following year in two thousand eight he only ate fifty nine in the regulation period which was dropped to ten minutes. However in overtime Chestnut is the first to finish a plate of five hot dogs and buns and wins. His competition was Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi who is also a twig.

It is wrong to be fat. In fact, it is one of the seven deadly sins. Most church fans ignore this inconvenient truth.

To who it may concern: the question was "Is it wrong to be fat?" with details asking about guilt. The question was not "please discuss dieting" or "Is it healthy to be fat?" or "Will you be happier thin?". For a large number of people the question of right or wrong includes considering religious tradition. My answer is quite helpful to anyone who is actually interested in researching whether it is right or wrong to be fat.

After years of overconsumption, do people feel it is wrong to overconsume or do they feel apathy? What are the motivating factors that move a person to change their behavior?

Our bodies are a temple unto God. Being over weight is a sign that the body is not healthy....I would not just encourage you to lose weight, but get healthy in general with a plant based biblical diet.
