Is it worth signing up for Google Voice if you only have one phone number?
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes, there are features other than call routing that make Google Voice useful. For example:
1. Voice Mail w/ Transcription - I use Google Voice primarily as a voice mail box when I'm out of the country. When someone leaves me a voice mail, the service does an auto voice-to-text and emails it to me. It also emails me a link to the voice clip, so I can choose to listen to it if I want.
2. Free SMSing - You can use the web interface to send and receive SMSes.
3. Voice Mail and SMS management - The web interface is an "inbox" for your VM and SMS. It's like Gmail... new stuff comes in and you can read it in any order you want (like "visual voice mail") and after that, you can archive it.
And even if you have just one phone number (like me), you can set up routing rules too. For example, when my mom calls, I always have it ring. But if certain other people call, I can have it route directly to voice mail, etc.

Thanks for the tips! I didn't realize there was an option for routing rules - that sounds like an intereting feature!
Call routing is also useful if you change your provider without porting the number. You just need to add the new number to Google voice.
