Is it worth going full HD as an art student looking at film making? Im wondering if the extra cost/memory/editing time needed is worth it?

looking at buying my first camcorder, not sure whether to get a low end hd (canon vixia hf200?) or maybe slightly better quality standard def.

Also, the Vixia is memory card format, if anyone has any thoughts on memory/film options they'd be great
