I’m not sure that there are any specific statistics available about the average wind speeds in summer as compared to winter in the city of Chicago. The city definitely has a propensity for wind year round, but for sure the wind is much more noticeable in the winter than it is in the summer. Since the wind has the effect of lowering the “effective” temperature, a windy winter day is much more obvious than a windy summer day. I’ve spent a fair bit of time in Chicago and any time I think about the wind in the city, I think about windy winter days (not summer ones). You are probably also aware that while the city is reasonably windy, it isn’t called “The Windy City” because of the weather, but actually because of the “windy” politicians.
