To the Celts:
All albino animals in Celtic mythology were otherworldly animals
Cernunnos, the Celtic Horned Spirit-god, was depicted with the antlers of an albino stag; he was revered as a nature spirit-god of fertility and abundance, and to be the Lord of the Beasts. It was held that his antlers symbolised the radiance of heavenly light. The albino stag or deer was therefore the symbol and representation of the heavenly light on earth, as a reminder, and so t would fall heavily on any who would extinguish that light.
In addition, white deer are very rare, with less than 10 % ever surviving to adulthood, being easy targets for natural predators and trophy hunters to bag and stick on a wall.
You decide, would you or could you end the life of such a beautiful animal simply to stick its head on your wall? If so and there is truth in the beliefs
of the American Indian and the Celts, it may verywell be your head that is at stake!

M$This is absolutely heartbreaking. It's a shame this hasn't been brought to the attention of more people. Something should be done with this issue above many others that are being seen to. Thanks for sharing this.
That, while tragic, is nothing to do with genocide. It's also pretty well known by now. Primitive superstition and religion should be fought by all civilized people.

M$But, this has absolutely nothing to do with "luck". There is no scientific mechanism, either proven , suspected, or even suggested that would link killing an albino deer to anything about one's future. Any such suggestion is pure superstition, not to mention pure stupidity.
Superstition about albinos is not just stupidity, it is dangerous and evil. Such beliefs have led to persecution and murder of human albinos. Do not countenance any such foolish beliefs.
In some states of the USA, killing an albino deer is illegal. This does not involve luck. If you are caught you will be fined. Elsewhere, you are merely displaying poor sportsmanship, since a white deer is an easy target. But, you will only be beating the other predators to the punch. An albino deer is doomed anyway.

M$Because albinism is strictly an inherited condition that brings with it physical weaknesses such as poor vision, I personally believe that harvesting an albino deer during hunting season may be doing the species a favor by not perpetuating this weakness within the herd.
Please do not confuse my opinion with nazi-ism. I am referring stictly to deer and I do not condone the taking of any animal during hunting season for any reason other than for food.

Albanian, the question was not what is the connection between albinism and luck, the question was is it unlucky to kill an albino deer. I believe that I have answered the question as well as provided the reasons that it is unlucky to kill an albino deer and why.
While I am interested in history myself, I feel that this answer does not address the real question. What is the connection between albinism and luck? There is none, and superstitions that claim otherwise have resulted in widespread evil.
