Is it unhealthy to lose 24 pounds in 28 days by controlling calorie intake (and mild exercise)?

I am a 5'11 male who has gone from 278.5 to 254.2 in 27 days by eating less and exercising a bit more. How unhealthy is that?

this is very relative. if you have a very high fat % or BMI, this could be an achievable goal (however much will be water weight), if you have a very low fat % or BMI this could be very dangerous and unhealthy. from your stats, i think you've done a great job. i've had similar success, and have lost over 150 lbs in less than a year by doing exactly that, limit calories and exercise. it is all about calories in and calories out. i consult nutritionists and dr.'s regularly to ensure that i'm doing this in a healthy manner. good luck going forward.

Initially I would like to say yes but this is the exact tactic used by bariatric surgeons and 'The Biggest Loser.' Limiting calorie intake and exercising is the best way to lose weight however, if you are on a restrictive diet be sure to make the most of every calorie you eat. You don't want to become malnourished for the sake of weight loss.

This is great! As long as you aren't making yourself throw up, this means that you lose weight much easier than most other people. Plus, studies show that you can each just as much, if not MORE, than ever.

This can only be done if you focus on eating foods with low calories and high volumes. Numerous studies show that people stop eating once they finish eating the same amount, regardless of high/low calorie alternatives of the consumed food. Instead of starving yourself by eating less, eat the same amount (or more) as long as the foods you buy have low caloric densities (calories per serving/ounce/etc). This is often referred to as 'volumetrics.'

In general, dry foods and high-fat foods have the highest caloric densities. These should be avoided. Instead, look for foods loaded with water, fiber, and air. These tend to have the lowest caloric densities.

What does your doctor say?

Different people have different body mass indexes and simply carry their weight differently.

It's possible that this is perfectly healthy for you. On the flip side of the coin, it is possible that this is putting tremendous stress on your heart and arteries (not just the ones in your chest but in your legs too) and you may not realize it.

So, GOOD FOR YOU for loosing the weight my man! But it would be a good time for a physical from your Doc to make sure that everything is works as good as it looks if you know what I mean.
