Is it true that your nose gets longer as you grow older?

I have read somewhere that our noses get longer as we age! I don't think it meant like Pinocchio, but even a bit would be very unpleasant as far as I'm concerned! Does anyone know if this is true and if there is any way other than surgery to help prevent it happening?

Not really, as a person age and because of the aging process that the body is undergoing, the nose does not grow longer or larger but there is a tendency for it to droop.

When a person age, collagen and elastic fibers break down allowing the skin to stretch and sag making the nose appear longer and droopier. Shorter and perky nose are associated with youth. This is one of the reasons why rhinoplasty is sometimes recommended along with anti-aging procedures like facelift in order to restore the nose to a more youthful appearances.

Another reason why the nose appears larger or longer as a person ages is because the surrounding areas of the face like the cheeks, lips and hollows of the eyes lose some of their volume. By comparison the nose can then appear longer. Some people turn to use injectable dermal fillers and lip augmentations to correct this.

As one ages, the nose and ears apparently do get larger or at least appear to get larger. The reason is because they are made of cartiledge and also the skin starts to sag. Just as skin sags on other parts of the body due to the effects of aging and gravitational force on our bodies for many years.

I can see surgery perhaps lifting the nose to keep it from sagging, but what kind of surgery can be done to ears that are growing? I don't think there is anything that can be done for that, unless one wants to reconstruct the ear. In the case of the ear, it might be better as it grows with age since we naturally lose some hearing and the largeness of the ear can help amplify sounds.

Having surgery on the nose to help it from sagging would be like having a face lift. It doesn't last forever and you'd have to repeated have the procedure done. Hardly seems worth it.
