Is it true that married people live longer on average or is it just a myth?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As the old joke goes,"it only seems longer."
But it is true that married folks tend to live longer because they tend to be healthier and have social resources that many single people don't, like having someone available to take them to the doctor or care for them when they are sick.

You beat me to it, and with the same source too! :)
However, you should note that the difference in longevity between married and never-married men (which was the largest difference in the 70s) has declined significantly, with the never married's catching up. The thought is that these days single men take better care of themselves than they used to.
Also interesting is that widowers have lost ground in terms of longevity, possibly because they have fewer resources to support them as families have spread out more geographically and living with an adult child and his/her family is less prevalent.
