Is it true if you give a baby honey before he/she is one years old, he or she will be allergic to honey for the rest of its life?

No, this is not true.
There are only two main reasons people avoid giving very young babies honey

- they can pick up a bacteria that causes a toxin and poisoning can occur. This is very rare. The bacteria is a botulism spore and it is killed by high temperature cooking and it can be found in honey. After 12 months babies intestines are more developed and the bacteria does not grow (1)(2)
- the sugar in the honey is not good for dental hygiene and it does mean they may develop a taste for sweet foods (1)(3)

Some cultures do give babies honey, its not always unsafe, but considering its only one small food thing its best to not give honey too young. It does not mean they will become allergic. You can also read source 4 for more details...

The dangers with honey is not about the allergic reaction, rather the risk of infant botulism. Although rare, it can be fatal. The reason it is dangerous for infants is because their little bodies are not big enough if case the honey does have botulism. Older children and adults are not bothered by this because their bodies are bigger and more mature to handle the toxins, if any.

There is greater details at this website on the dangers.

For this reason, honey should not be given to an infant under the age of one. I didn't let my son eat it until he was two.

Actually there is a chance of botulism with honey, and being that babies immune systems are still so small they do not have the necessary anitbodies to help fight it as in older children and adults.
