Is it profitable for Fox to air the baseball playoffs instead of scripted or reality programming? Can someone show me proof of this?
Every year they say that fewer and fewer people watch baseball, yet Fox gladly pushes their schedule of popular shows back until after the baseball season. I know that TBS will air the National League playoffs this year, and most of the NBA playoffs are on ESPN and TNT. So why does Fox keep airing the MLB playoffs and not move them to FX or Fox Sports?

From what I have seen, Playoffs have gotten great ratings, and unlike scripted TV shows, sporting events are enjoyed by many live, and knowing the outcome will interfere with the enjoyment of the game. This article is a bit old (2005), but it explains that Fox has confidence in the Playoffs, and that they are at least profitable to air.
