Is it possible to trade rhodium? If so, what commodity index provides the option?

Tip for best answer: M$10.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I'm not sure how liquid their market is, but apparently kitco allows you to trade rhodium.

I am unaware of any mercantile indexes or futures markets specifically facilitating the trade of Rhodium contracts. The London Metals Exchange does not facilitate Rhodium trading, according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Metal_Exchange) as it is one of the minor metals.

However, much trading is done between members of the Minor Metals Trade Association (http://www.mmta.co.uk/about/) which sets up some basic regulations and arbitration procedures for members to trade specific minor metals such as Rhodium under contract. It is probably fair to say that this is the primary method in which Rhodium is traded as a commodity.

There appears to be at least one site offering up-to-date prices for Rhodium (http://www.kitco.com/market/) from a known metals dealer.

In one article (http://metalsplace.com/news/articles/20111/why-there-is-no-future-market-for-rhodium/) it is stated that it is rather complex to acquire Rhodium, as it is an industrial byproduct of mining for other metals. It does reference spot market pricing in New York, which to my knowledge represents where Kitco contracts for metals delivery. It appears you may be able to purchase Rhodium directly through Kitco, and maintain it in a "pool account" (stored by Kitco, so you don't have to pay premiums for local delivery, since you are just investing).

Since it's not a very commonly traded material, its not on an exchange, but I did find a place where you can buy and sell rhodium! Good luck!

As of 2007, there were no organized trading or futures market for rhodium. However, it appears that it is a non-exchange traded commodity.

I don't understand how stocks work, so hopefully that helps you out.
