Is it possible to record video with a Playstation 3?

Yes, you can record videos and take pictures with the Playstation 3 but you will need to use its official camera add-on, the Playstation Eye.
The Playstation 3 has a piece of software called EyeCreate (it’s free off the PSN Store if you don't have it yet) that allows you capture videos and images and save them straight to the hard drive. With EyeCreate, you shoot in a variety of modes such as stop motion and time lapse, and even add in your own music to the composition.
In case you didn't know, there are also some webcams that are compatible with the Playstation 3 but as far as I know, they can only be used for chatting purposes and will not work with the EyeCreate software.
