Is it possible to combine a wireless and an ethernet connection to get more speed?
If it is possible, what software/hardware would I need to make this work?
If it is not possible, what makes it impossible? (hardware or software)
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Basically, yes it is possible, but it will be difficult. I don't think you can do it in any consumer version of Windows, but you can do "Channel bonding" with Windows Server or Linux.
You will probably have to re-compile your kernel in linux to get this working.
Even so, you won't get double the speed. If they are artificially restringing your internet speed (IE: you have a 100mb wired network connection but only a 1mb connection to the internet) then it might work. However this will most certainly be a violation of the terms of service - if you are discovered you will likely find yourself with NO internet.

Yes,I didn't mention load balancing. Load Balancing won't really get you a faster connection, but if you have multiple apps transferring data they will use separate network connections.
Also don't forget about load balancing, which YES i know is something completely different.
But helps if you run multiple applications that both use a internet connection.
