Is it possible for a dog to get Kennel Cough without coming in contact with other dogs?
I have an 8 year old Boxer and about 2 weeks ago he starting coughing. He only coughed about once a day that I noticed so I thought he was just clearing his throat. About 2 days ago, he started coughing up clear phlegm and starting today the phlegm turned a creamy pink color. Every time he tries to bark or run, he starts a coughing fit that ends with him spitting up. My old dog, who was a Doberman, had Kennel Cough once when she was younger but we actually left her at a kennel once or twice so that's understandable. This Boxer I have now is a complete shut in so I just don't understand how he could have all the symptoms of Kennel Cough. I'm really worried about him and I want to make an appointment for him on Monday but, I don't want to waste my money if it's just Kennel Cough because he's usually pretty healthy and I know his immune system can handle it along with some children's Dimetapp :/

If he is eating and playing as normal it is most likely kennel cough. It is always a good idea to see his vet though just to be sure. It is possible for his to get kennel cough even if it's never around other dogs because it is spread airborne. It could come into the house on your shoes or if a neighbor dog has it. Kennel cough is highly contagious so it spreads very easily and quickly.
