Is it ok to eat swordfish again, or is it still overfished/in danger of extinction?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes, levels have sufficiently recovered. An article as far back as 2002 indicates that levels had rebounded after only 3 or 4 years of recovery efforts to a good level.

And, an article from only a few months ago is exactly the support you're looking for to feed your swordfish craving. It is from a Florida seafood website, and says definitively that there is no need to fear the swordfish levels any more and that it is alright to chow down.

Well, Wikipedia says that the stocks are coming back and it's not endangered so it looks like it's better than it was, probably OK to eat.
But, because it's an 'oily fish' there can be high levels of mercury in the fish. It's probably OK to eat once in a while, but not very often unless you enjoy the symptoms of mercury poising.
Swordfish is my favorite fish, but I hardly ever eat it because of this.
