Is it normal for a women to have urine leakage when sneezing?

I know many of the women in my family have this problem when sneezing, coughing and even sometimes with things like jumping on the trampoline. Is it normal for women to do this? Is there anyway to prevent this. I know sometimes I have to cross my legs when I know I am going to sneeze hard or it will cause me to pee on myself just a little bit. It’s rather embarrassing but all the women in my family do this. How can this be fixed?

This happens to a lot of women, especially as they get older. It is known as UI or Urinary Leakage. This is when urine leaks out while sneezing, coughing, laughing out loud or even while having sex.

UI is usually caused by problems with muscles and nerves that help to hold or pass urine. UI is twice as common in women as in men. Pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause are major reasons why.

If you or other women life are having a hard time dealing with UI, they should consult their doctors to find out possible treatments.

I have heard it is pretty common especially after having children and aging. There are exercises that can help strengthen the muscles that allow you to stop the leakage and then if that doesn't work, there are medicines that can reduce the number of times you need to relieve yourself. There are surgeries that can help with this if all the other methods have failed.
