Is it more profitable to release a magazine on the iPad or the Nook?

Definitely for the iPad. The market is a lot bigger, and the access to the App Store also means you could make the magazine work on the iPhone and iPod touch with almost no effort, expanding the range of possible distribution for the magazine.
The Nook is too niche, and the iPad+iPhone+iPod touch probably have about 1000 times more units than the Nook.
Also, the Nook is US only. iPad, iPhone and iPod touch are world wide.
So you do the math ;)
