Is it legal for Charter to charge me a $35 fee to turn off my tv cable services? I was NEVER advised of that! I kept their HSI.

I did add details but they disappeared.
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You may have to reread the terms of service. Sometimes it's buried deep in the terms. By signing the installation paperwork you agreed to the TOS.

It does suck, but there aren't many choices in the TV and HSI market, so they know they have you by the balls (hope no offense taken).

It's very similar to the cell phone termination fees, which at $175 per line is what I would consider unethical. It's not my fault they can't run a business and have extremely high customer acquisition costs.

If you didn't sign a contract you should contact your State Attorney General about this unfair fee. Additionally a BBB (Better Business Bureau) http://bbb.org complaint can be beneficial at times. I am not sure about the legality but if I was you I would pay it and then challenge it with my credit card along with exercising the other forms of recourse that I've stated above.

Or... just call Charter and tell them no way. I find BBB irrelevant - but it wouldn't hurt to write the Attorney General so they can investigate if they get enough complaints.

Don't underestimate the BBB. I once got the CEO of Cingular to call me (I made him leave a message) based on a BBB complaint.
